500 Days and counting 

Qatar celebrated the countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2022™ with the arrival of that most iconic of sporting trophies,
the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy, which will be lifted by the captain of the next FIFA World Cup™ winning team. The trophy’s arrival marks the countdown clicking past 500 days until the opening ceremony kicks off. According to official data,
the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy was “introduced in 1974. Made of 18 carat gold with bands of malachite on its base, it stands 36.8 centimetres high and weighs 6.1 kilograms. The trophy was made by Stabilimento Artistico Bertoni Company in Italy. It depicts two human figures holding up the Earth.” 
 
Eto’o dreaming of a Cameroon vs. Qatar final  

Official Qatar Legacy Ambassador and Cameroon, Chelsea and Barcelona legend Samuel Eto’o is getting very excited about the FIFA World Cup 2022™. In a recent interview in which he also looked forward to the Tokyo Olympics, a competition he won with Cameroon in Sydney 2000, he said: 
 
“I have no doubt that it will be the most beautiful FIFA World Cup ever organised. And I have one wish – to witness a final featuring Cameroon v Qatar for a once in a lifetime experience,”  

“I would encourage everyone to come to Qatar for this special tournament. I hope fans don’t miss the chance to visit and watch two matches a day in the group stage. There are so many beautiful places to visit here in Doha. Fans can have an amazing holiday while also following their passion, football.” 

He went on to highlight the perfect playing conditions: 

“The weather in December in Qatar is usually around 20 degrees, so it will be perfect conditions for the players, but also for the fans, who I’m sure will have an amazing time exploring Qatar during the tournament.” 

Also commenting on the Olympics he added: 

“Anyone who is passionate about sport will naturally follow the Olympic Games, it is a major sporting competition and those who love sport will not miss it.” 

Answers on a postcard…. Qatar launches commemorative FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Philatelic Programme

Philatelists around the globe welcomed the Supreme Committee for Legacy & Delivery collaboration with Qatar Post to launch its second commemorative postage stamp collection. The new postage stamp set depicts the eight iconic stadiums designed and constructed to host the FIFA World Cup 2022™. 

A Qatar Post spokesperson, said:  

“Similar to the first set, the launch of the FIFA World Cup 2022™ stadiums stamp set comes in cooperation with FIFA,
the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, and within the Qatar Post mandate to document all events, celebrations and preparations managed by Qatar to host the upcoming tournament. Through distinctive designs, each stamp embodies the unique architecture of the eight stadiums that will host the matches of the first-ever FIFA World Cup™ to be played in the region, in Qatar.” 

Yasir al-Jamal, chairman of the Operations Office and vice-chairman of the Technical Delivery Office at the Supreme Committee added: 

“It is a source of great pride that our stunning stadiums are featured on this latest set of stamps. Each of our tournament venues has an incredible story to tell and we are sure that people across the country and beyond will enjoy collecting these designs.”
